The establishment of the centre essentially formalises the work Brainchip's Indian contractors have been performing for the past few quarters.
The centre will concentrate on software and firmware development to support the company's work on its Akida Neuromorphic System-on-Chip (ANSoC).
ANSoC
ANSoC is essentially a one-stop-shop AI system.
The single chip system is being developed to provide a complete neural network with no external components required, for use in a potentially vast array of AI applications including driverless vehicles.
The system is designed to be flexible, fast and energy efficient, with the ability to replace more complex and power-hungry systems in data centres and AI devices.
The software, firmware and CPU complex required for Akida's functioning are critical components. The specialist Indian team will aid in the refinement of the Akida product as the company moves towards commercialisation.
Brainchip CEO Louis DiNardo says the company's India team brings considerable expertise to the table.
"We have established BrainChip Systems India to support the requirement for robust system software and firmware," Louis said.
"As Akida is implemented commercially, it is important that our software is mature and provides a positive user experience," he continued.
We have a very seasoned management and engineering team in Hyderabad. Having a BrainChip entity in India will allow us to recruit and retain experienced engineering professionals as we expand operations to meet market demands."
The formalisation of the existing relationship with the Indian developers should streamline Akida's final development stages and eventual rollout to market.
Brainchip is trading 9.88 per cent higher at 47.3 cents at 1:07 pm AEST.
