I thought that initially, but, in my opinion, the architecture of M1 does not lend itself to implementing Akida. One of the features they mention is a common memory for the GUP/CPU/neural engine on the SoC. An important part of Akida is that memory elements are practically integral with the neurones.
It is interesting that the M1 uses 5nm manufacture. Akida 1000 is 28 nm, so there is a lot of inherent improvement in speed and power for Akida 2, 3 /etc.
