The life of a paten20 years, so we're good for a few years yet with our first patent.
We have more recent patents and patent applications which cover improvements or alternative implementations.
That said, a patent is only as strong as the protection aforded by the claims and it may be possible to design around our claims, or (heaven forefend) invalidate our patent.
TM can last indefinitely but is of use in stopping passing off type actions, but does not protect the technology.
