DJ’s is apparently the oldest and thus longest running department store in the worrrllllddd, having begun trading around 1836. David was a Welshman.
My favourite is the Pageant Store, John Martin’s or as the locals endearingly called it ‘Johnnies’.It opened in the 1860’s, and was owned for its entire life by the Hayward family.
In the Highlands, we have White’s, a local institution.
