Interesting article uiux but the big takeaway is the following statement which makes very real the importance to individual cancer patients of the sort of early detection device that Brainchip is working towards:

"Early detection of diseases, particularly cancer, could increase the 5-year survival rate by three- to five-fold. The attractiveness of breath analysis lies in it being noninvasive, its ease of use, its ability to help prognosis, and its low cost. If not as a stand-alone diagnostic, then it ought to be combined with current methods; it could be a complementary method for increasing the accuracy of detection and giving an earlier diagnosis."

By simply blowing into a breath tester on a regular basis say every 12 months survival rates could be increased from 5 years to 15 to 25 years.

That is huge. More so when you consider that in the development of new treatments for cancer from scratch you are running about a 10 year development cycle. Anyone who invests in biotechs knows that number and that presently a new idea for treating a particular cancer will most likely never help people diagnosed today because they will be gone long before the idea is proved and available. Increasing the survival times to 15 to 25 years will give so much hope to so many who otherwise would have had none at the point of diagnosis.
