At the edge, sensor inputs are analyzed at the point of acquisition rather than through transmission via the cloud to a data center.
And that's a game changer because current "powerful" sensor devices that use AI to process data (such as facial recognition, voice interpretation, or vibration analysis) rely on remote heavy-duty computing to perform their AI, sending data back through the internet to servers that undertake the heavy processing required to perform deep analysis.
