I read this article from Socionext last year and posted about it and the fact that this breakthrough would be useful to BRN. I was thinking about your suggestion regarding a 5nm chip and wondered whether the AKD1000 even in 28nm would benefit from incorporating this digital pll by increasing speed and further reducing power.
Could part of what is happening be a redesign incorporating this innovation as even for hardening removal of analog would have significant advantages:
