Stock manipulation which is legal is common everywhere.
What is not legal in Australia is naked shorting, selling a stock you do not own.
What is common everywhere, is borrowing shares, selling small quantities at a tick below in hope that the market follows down and you can buy back at a much lower price to cover the settlement. Then do it again.
Not so sure that there is an attempt to make the price look low, more like going lower.
