This YouTube video highlights that GrAI Matter Labs may be a strong competitor.
Presentation was done by Orlando Moreira, Chief Architect and Fellow in GrAI Matter Labs. If you skip to 31:01, it lists the specifications of NeuronFlow2, which will have 4M neurons (vs 1.2M in Akida) but which aims to use a 14nm process.
Obviously using the smaller process will increase the cost significantly, so I don't Akida needs to worry about competition to its $10 chips.
What I'm curious about is the physical dimensions of Akida. NeuronFlow2 is meant to have a 25mm2 size, which could benefit GrAI Matter if they are trying to sell chips for very space constrained applications. However, since Brainchip is licensing companies its IP, my thoughts are that Brainchip are currently the winner in this area. If Akida is successful and the first commercial chip out to market, it will have a significant headstart.
