Robots and the Human Brain - A Glimpse of the Future

Abstract:
The emergence of robots in industry and human life is not a figment of imagination any more. Industrial robots have been in place for a long time, however, these specific robots were built and used for specific purposes only. The recent developments in learning and cognition techniques as well as sensory perceptions have led to a resurgence in Artificial Intelligence research and a wide-spread belief that machine intelligence may finally be achievable. In this talk, we will try to get an overview of the various paths to machine intelligence and the challenges there in, leading to the evolution of Neuromorphic Computing as an alternative computational paradigm. Can the evolving Neuromorphic platforms be applied in the computing industry, especially in situations where human-robot collaboration is foreseen?
