I don't understand why you need to have your hand held by the board.

You can't expect the company to announce every negotiation it enters into, or new hire they've made, or revenue stream somebody thought of in a marketing strategy meeting. They would quite rightly be caned for wasting their time announcing meaningless rubbish and compromising commercial negotiations.

No updates = no significant developments

It's as simple as that. If that means the company is not making progress quickly enough for you then your solution is simple: take some or all of your money and put it in a company that is making progress quickly enough for you.

Spend the time researching other candidates. At least that might produce a positive result for you, while all these useless, whiney, needy, rubbish posts about lack of updates never will.
