    Here's my two cents worth.

I think before we even worry about accuracy (sensitivity and specificity) of a screening test, for sleep apnoea, we must first consider other important factors such as ease of access and usability of the proposed screening test.

For screening, if we're to worry about Firefly as a competitor, we may as well worry about HSAT (home sleep apnoea test) too, especially as the latter is the incumbent test, already widely used, and accepted as a pretty good test. To be successful, Sleepcheck must beat HSAT.

So now, as we are competing with HSAT as well as Firefly, surely we must be doomed???

The answer is, of course, and empathically - NO!

    Let's go through the logic:

HSAT is accurate, but it's expensive, difficult to access, uncomfortable and monstrous to set up. As a result, no one wants HSAT as a screening test. I think we've established this a while ago.

What about Firefly then? To answer this question please refer to the diagram below. It should be pretty clear that Firefly neither looks pleasant, nor easy to set up, nor user friendly, and is likely to be more expensive to do than Sleepcheck.

So if we put ourselves in the shoes of the suspected sleep apnoeic. From the beginning, you really don't think you have a problem, or worth the hassle to test for OSA (BTW, that's the reason why there are so many undiagnosed cases out there!) You're certainly not willing to go through the cost and pain of using HSAT, and for that matter, Firefly. But you've got an iphone, and you've got $8 to spare, and would do a test just to make peace with your wife. So you're happy enough to download Sleepcheck, then put the smart phone next to your bed, to get an answer the next morning. All for $8, and hassle free. I think if I was a suspected sleep apnoeic, I'd do that instead of the other options.

So there you go, no competition really is there? Sleepcheck is cheaper, more accessible, easier to set up, and therefore more marketable and appealing to the broad population. If you were Resmed would you go with Firefly or Sleepcheck?
