Here are some numbers for you to consider:
At 25.5 ktpa production and 25 years of mining (planned production duration of Kachi), and with a 4.4mt LCE resource size, it would mean that 14.48% of the lithium would disappear in the worst case scenario after 25 years (in case the brine that flows in would have zero lithium content).
That would decrease the mean lithium grade of the brine from 211 mg/l to 181 mg/l. Please note that VUL has already only this level of grade (181 mg/l) at the project start. So it’s an issue to be dealt with but other projects like VUL already start from this level that Kachi might reach only at the end of life of the mining activity.
And it seems that LKE will reinject the brine farther away from the extraction well. Please see the below diagram in the blue circles.
This means that extracted brine in the salar will be mostly replaced by aquifers adjacent to the salar and/or aquifers deeper feeding from below, which will most likely have a higher than zero lithium content. The dilution of the spent brine injected far away will get diluted across the salar.
So all in all, nothing to worry about.
