I do not know if we can blame the Australian government that is trying to hold on to its hydrocarbon economy. Once the current fuels disappear or be reduced, so will the millions/billions of tax revenues. These will have to be replaced with another form of taxes. There are already moves to increase the cost of EV recharge cost. Especially in Europe where the percentage of EV's on the roads are higher. I dare to say Australia will follow.
