I’m also sceptical BUT Google isn’t allowed in China and we apparently “don’t need China”!
If you were a startup worried about survival primarily and your product was microcontrollers / chips that go into all manner of devices, from appliances to rockets, wouldn’t your first choice of partner be the biggest manufacturing country in the world (about 60% of global production capacity)?
The confidence to state “we don’t need China” says much more than just we think the other markets are enough for us, it implies we have a secured demand source that’s significant and supported by competitiion and security concerns.
Google could be that demand source.
