They are not but I think this is marketing winning over science.
The market thinks it understands accelerators at the edge and so probably Rob Telson and Renesas in consultation have said let’s not push it uphill let’s embrace the term and get in the door and once through the door we will dazzle them with AKD1000 brilliance hence the words “standalone” which other accelerators are not as they need to work with a GPU or CPU.
This is just my informed speculation trying to make sense of something which is technically incorrect.
My opinion only DYOR.
