    Akida is a processor that identifies an event - the idea being it "filters" all the data thrown at it until something occurs that creates an alert.

    That alert is then sent on for a decision - in a handheld sniffer the alert might be all that is needed - in a complex system like a car you might have a bunch of AKIDAs, all processing different data streams and sending out alerts to a central decision making processor. This way the decision making processor is only dealing with relevant information - not everything the car's sub systems are looking at.

    A bit like how the pain receptors in your hand only fire when your brain needs to know there's something hurting your hand.
