Was Peter’s award decided solely by the good guys (us) outvoting the rest?
Why do I ask - A few years ago, the father of a mate was awarded an AM. He lived in a small country town and as I wasn’t aware of anything particularly noteworthy that he had ever done, I asked my mate how he came to get it. He told me that the local lawn bowling club had got together and decided to see if they could work the system, and win an Aussie Day award for the club secretary (mate’s father). They made a determined effort and got most of the town to vote…voila, his father picked up a gong - ‘for services to bowling’
I’m the last person to say Peter didn’t deserve his award, but surely it would carry more credibility if it had been decided by his peers, or at least a combination of peer review and the vote.
