1). The shortee's nefarious paymasters are too cheap to be paying them double time to be spewing their tripe on public holidays.

2). The poor dears are all tuckered out from helping Santa wrap gifts and volunteering at homeless shelters.

Most likely is that the rat masters totally underestimate the value and power of the thousand eye's cooperative that has evolved here, because it does not fit within their algorithmic paradigm of the simple greed/fear response computational model they rely upon.
