I am rather intrigued by the recent scalability hint as part of design upgrade prior to going into production.
In very general terms in means
* being able to take on more
That could mean
^support for bigger networks, or...
1^ It could mean more bits devoted to giving more precision
-- The CNN 2 SNN process is known to have a (mostly acceptable) step down in accuracy in some/many/(most?) potential use cases. It is the nature of handling the data in a very different way that gives BRN the huge reduction in energy costs.
2^ It could mean better cross chip communication for very large networks. BRN may be able to compete in the cloud for those large CNNs which are conveniently expressible as SNN. That may be further out.
3^ It could mean more or faster pre-processing in the embedded ARM pu. .

Whichever way it pans out, the delay until now is likely to be because potential users had a need for those functions.
The really good news is BRN have been able to respond before going into volume production, presumably to provide those interested parties with what they need to lock in production.
