It's true that the spec says "may be a software application", but a patent is required to disclose the best method of performing the invention known to the patentee, and a quick scan for "304" and "engine" only comes up with those in your extract. So it does not appear that, when the patent was filed, (september 2019) that they were contemplating SoC, unless it's hidden in the fine print.
