Analog signals involve generating voltage spikes whose amplitude represents the size of the input signal from the pixel. Random noise (voltage spikes) can corrupt the the signal and give false readings.
A bit like AM (amplitude modulated) radio signals which are more subject to noise (interference), say during a lightning storm, compared to FM where the information is carried in the changes in the frequency of the carrier signal and less prone to interference.
