@BarrelSitter and I discussed the latest patent application by Brainchip and the way it uses SRAM with Scratchpad memory is exactly what Musk and you are talking about.
Scratchpad memory is used only until the AKIDA device accumulates enough single spikes to decide what it is seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting etc; and then those spikes stored on the Scratchpad memory are no longer required and are let go. In the patent this method is made very clear when it points out that the down side of Scratchpad memory normally is that it does not retain the stored information when turned off but this makes it perfect for AKIDA's purposes.
