This is an extremely valuable differentiation you are pointing out.

This is the point Rob Lincourt was getting across, that the use of Cloud computing is getting to the point where it will not be able to cope with the exponential growth that is being seen and which is continuing at pace and the only way it will not collapse under its own weight is if better ways of processing some or all of the data, is if it can be processed at the edge. He made a considerable point of reducing images to something more manageable before it is sent to the Cloud as even 5G while it will be useful as some processing can occur there will not cope with what is happening. The billions or plethora of devices, the Smart Cities, the Smart Building, not to mention Smart Cars will only be possible if this need to send everything to the Cloud and back can be reduced at point of data acquisition.

So as you point out the Edge however defined is the new horizon, the new frontier and at this point as I have said before and as the former CEO laboured over Brainchip's AKIDA is not an accelerator it is a processor at the true or far edge all by itself capable of reducing this traffic and facilitating the exponential growth of Edge devices using very low power and running on batteries and being reconfigured on device as new horizons open up.
