you need to re read the tax laws

eg
Normal income $35,000
Capital gain held for >12mths. $20,000
Discounted gain is then $10,000
Taxable income (obviously this doesn’t include all other aspects such as deductions, pensions, etc etc ) = $45,000
You pay tax on $45,000
Sooooooo ... Your tax is not halved
Your capital gains taxable income is halved ..
You just gotta read and interpret
