Peter is a scientist, first and foremost. No, let me correct myself, he is a GREAT scientist. One who has been postulating, theorising and documenting (initially anonymously) way ahead of his time. And today he is the natural leader of a very special group of scientists.

Peter may (likely will) deserve auspicious comparisons in time. With Turing and other stars of the computing universe, but perhaps with even more lofty (immortal) thinkers and doers. And Time will be the judge of that.

But to hold him up as a great business manager, one calling the strategic business focus, one dealing with corporate challenges and pushy industry people...not well reasoned, imo. While he may enjoy that environment and while the thought may have emotional appeal, anyone who has held BRN BL (before Lou) knows full well that BRN was then not so well placed and was in fact floundering for direction.

Massive credit to Peter, where credit is due, but let's measure dispassionately the costs and benefits of our great thinker as a part-time corporate manager. I believe we do both him and ourselves a major disservice if we leave him pulling both the corporate and scientific strings for any longer than absolutely necessary.
