    https://www.techradar.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-7-battery-fires-heres-why-they-exploded

This is why the Samsung Galaxy Note 7batteries caught fire and exploded.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery fires and explosions that - quite literally - triggered two recalls and cost the smartphone maker at least $5 billion have finally been resolved, according to Samsung. At Samsung's press conference, the company said that a number of errors may have occurred during this rushed process, with factors including missing insulating tape and sharp-edged protrusions.

    Missing insulatingtape!?! Saparator!!!

GM to begin fixing Chevy Bolt EVs, recalled due to fire risk, as soon asnext month

    POINTS

General Motors said Monday it expects to begin replacing battery modules in Chevrolet Bolt EVs, which were recalled due to fire risk, as soon as next month. The timing follows the automaker’s battery supplier LG Chem restarting production of battery cells with updated manufacturing processes at plants in Michigan, GM said.GM has confirmed 13 battery fires globally.

No manufacturer of electronics or vehicles containing batteries can afford in the future that such events - fires of cars, smartphones, laptops or cell phones - cause a great damage to the image of the companies and and billions have to be invested for the settlement of the damages.

Not to mention the enormous danger posed by such fires. There are considerations to make HPA separators mandatory in batteries.

Japan and China secure supremacy inglobal battery separator business

The growing demand for Li-ion batteries and energy storage systems will require the production of battery separators in a completely new dimension. To be prepared for this future, the Japanese chemical manufacturer Asahi Kasei and the Chinese global market leader for separators, Shanghai Energy New Materials Technology, now intend to join forces in a new partnership.

One factory: Annual separators as large as 46 times the area of Frankfurt Airport

Conclusion: We recently reported on the $500 million acquisition of LG Chem in the separators business. The recent decision by Japanese technology leader Ashai Kasai to join forces with the world market leader for separators from China speaks for the enormous dynamics that prevail in this business. The rapid pace at which this industry is developing, and the tremendous opportunities for high-purity alumina - HPA - that it presents, are sure to be closely noted by Alcoa Ltd. as well. By early October, Alcoa and FYI Resources plan to announce a final decision on a possible joint venture. Given the huge scale of the separator business, this is arguably about nothing less than the start of a new industry. Is Alcoa ready for it? We'll know more in two weeks.
