What alcoa have spent and will spend for phase 1 and 2 is absolute peanuts to them. It kind of ticks this new EV ESG box, to say hey to shareholders we are exploring cool new things. But be assured this, if they cannot see this is a viable business, they have made it very clear they can walk at anytime. HPA is a very opaque tricky market, its getting more competitive as well, with specialist industry players stepping up production. Its not a big market and may not be worth their time.
If FYI was so god dam good would it not already be binding?? the fact that Alcoa are going to do test work with ore input, says a lot about how this is currently viewed to them - its R&D. FYI is now left to flap in the breeze and wait. There is so much work to be done (time) before you get close to Alcoa wanting to make this binding..... if that ever happens.
