On the Victorian broad gauge rail network, Tuesday 25 July 2023 finds GNC grain trains (operated by Pacific National) loading at the quaint name of Quambatook on the Manangatang line, while further to the northeast, another is taking on the golden stuff at Tocumwal, NSW, the secondary main line terminus on the Murray River that once had NSW and Victorian lines meet, although on different gauges.
In NSW's Riverina, the extremely busy Barellan silos on the Temora-Griffith secondary main line are receiving another clearance.
At West Wyalong, another train is loading for GNC. The same is true at Milvale with its significant GNC facilities. It's on the Cootamundra West-Parkes crosscountry line.
To cap it off, there's another Pacific National train loading at northwest NSW's Moree GNC silos. A handling competitor has a separate train loading at Moree. We can confidently suggest Moree won't be as busy in a year's time as rainfall in northwest NSW hasn't been what growers would have liked, so lower plantings and hence a much smaller harvest with perhaps poorer yields per hectare will be the result for the winter 2023 crop.
Great that GNC is so busy during the April to September 'off season' for cartage to ports.
