The latter may take advice from their neighbours, agronomists, their NAB bank manager, specialist long range weather forecasters, GNC or AWB/Cargills and others including the blokes at ELD, but I assume as with any business ultimately the owner (or delegated manager) decides what to do, so one might see one gent plant his whole available area while another holds back.
Seasonal conditions won't be identical between the Mallee and Wimmera in Victoria, the Riverernina, Central or northwest NSW, or southwest Queensland, so again, numerous differing results.
AFAIK, graingrowers don't operate as a cartel (at least not in the eastern states hehe).
