Total intake is down 27.7 per cent compared with a year ago, a commentary on flooded or rain-affected paddocks and the difficulties contractors have had obtaining access, plus public road closures that further hinder access.

The smallest grain producing east coast mainland state, Queensland, has seen GNC receivals increase a healthy 17.33 per cent, which is pleasing. There's still receivals from southwest Queensland: locations such as Thallon.

GNC commented that canola receivals from localities such as Moree in northwestern NSW were 'strong' but it omitted a statement about wheat.

However in southern NSW (such as the Riverina), it says growers are accessing paddocks that have dried out, so wheat receivals 'are increasing'.

Canola and much needed barley are the receivals in Victoria, which should progress to wheat during coming weeks.

Receiving 1.56 million tonnes in a week suggests to this city dweller that the end result won't be disastrous, but of course it will fail to be record breaking. My guess is it'll be somewhere between 'fairly good' to 'very good'.

There's a fairly thin rain band that moved across northeast Victoria this morning and is now in southern NSW, but from afar on the BOM radar, it doesn't look significant. We should therefore have reasonable further tonnages arriving at silos and bunkers during the next seven days.
