Pleasingly, we can add to the NSW grain train list above one that's loading at Bribbaree on what can be the busy Cootamundra West - Parkes crosscountry line used by some Sydney to Perth intermodal trains as well an the ore train from Goonumbla and others.

In northwest NSW, there's a loaded train approaching Werris Creek from Narrbari. An empty grainie is at Narrabri, and there's a further two in the area, one of which may be heading for Moree, although with that one I don;t know if it's for GNC or a competitor.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation has its three car (carriage) 'silver streak' inspection train (complete with a sleeping car for employees) recording track quality between Narrabri West and the GNC facilities at Walgett that are prior to the river. The line once extended into the town: years ago, I travelled on a regularly scheduled passenger railcar to it, but the line is now closed into the town. This branch line has had a lot of grain trains in the past year (including in 2023 so far) which is terrific given city lads like me have always thought the area around Walgett was 'marginal' for cropping.

You'd have to say whether for domestic use or the export outloading program, GNC is doing really well in transporting such big quantities by rail in NSW and Victoria.

IIRC, a minority of 'rakes' (wagons coupled together making a train) are 50 wagons, though the norm is 40.

These grain trains increase safety on rural roads by reducing the number of B-Double and other truck movements to ports such as Geelong, Portland (Vic), Port Kembla and Carrington (Newcastle NSW), all the more important given how wet weather has dramatically increased the number of potholes.

I will leave the valuation of GNC to those with accounting expertise but are all analysts aware as to the volume of grain moving daily and creating a wonderful revenue and net profit stream? The trains above are only part of the picture, as there are also direct-to-port deliveries as well as numerous other products GNC handles at Port Kembla for instance.
