It is true that cutting edge tech takes a while to gain traction.
However, our former CEO Louis DiNardo spent a lot of time globetrotting and evangelizing Akida in the auto industry.
The Akida Development Environment has been available for a couple of years, the enginering samples of Akida SoC have also been available for nigh on two years, and the commercial Akida 1000 SoC has been out for several months.
Auto makers (ADAS/AD) find themselves on the horns of a dilemma. They need to assess the functionality and safety of new tech while not falling behind their competitors. In fact these competitive pressures have prevailed to the extent that safety has been somewhat neglected in some real world trials.
The amount of energy required to proces images using CNN on a CPU or using a GPU is a significant drain on the vehicle's battery, so there is a strong incentive to implement the energy savings which Akida's SNN processing brings to this task.
We know that vehicle manufacturers and vehicle electronic component suppiers have been assessing various versions of Akida SNN over the past couple of years, so I am hoping we will see Akida in ADAS within the next 18 months.
