not a tax agent or accountant, but in my opinion it does not make financial sense to sell high and buy low in the short term if your just after some quick cash.. but if you are playing the long game it can be beneficial if your able to time the market like that, it only make sense if you able to sell close to the high and buy significantly cheaper than you sold for as you could buy more shares with the same amount of money. and in the long game 1 share could be worth $100 so if you manage to accumulate let's say 10000 extra shares that will be worth 1mill down the line. but you also need to be able to pay your tax bill without it effecting your over all share count. what I'm trying to say here, is that it only makes sense if your able to end up with more shares by the end of your trade after your tax bill.
