Yes he did but Lou had the habit of doubling up on his words when he was hesitating and trying to be sure not to say too much. That slip or normal speech pattern of his is a dot I am not really prepared to make but as you point out maybe he was thinking 'largest' and then stumbled into saying large twice in avoiding the word 'largest' which would have completely given the game away at that point. LOL
