It's not comparing Brainchip to the GPU as for what it was originally designed, which was graphics processing. Brainchip is not a graphics processor.
Instead, it's comparing Brainchip to what GPUs are also being used for, a highly-parallel set of cores performing a lot of matrix and vector calculations required for Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) processing.
It's this type of mathematical processing which is also attractive to cryptocurrency miners, which is why gamers who want GPUs for playing games are paying ridiculous prices above MSRP competing with miners buying them for their GPU farms.
GPUs have a large footprint as well as large power requirements, so using a solution such as Brainchip for processing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) allows for a single chip (with no heatsink) with little power consumption (microwatts to milliwatts) while providing comparable accuracy to CNN results and on-chip learning capabilities.
