Quiet an interesting and somewhat scary video MC... i read about similar vehicles a few years ago here:

from what i understand, the newer versions capitalise on phase change material (literally solid and liquid) to change the buoyancy of the vehicle encouraging it to ascend or descend depending on the state.

from there, the "wing" shape of the Manta acts like an aircraft wing in the water to capitalise on the changing elevation and provide forward movement.

This new tech offers the deletion of the electric motor, propeller and large control surfaces and possibly the cable run along its length. This all equates to power savings and longer ranges. Put a power regenerator on the wing to repower during decent and the possibility of dropping a drone in the water to spend months at sea is very possible.

The scary part is that the drone could operate autonomously or in concert with other drones.. imagine a fleet of drones surveying a virtual geofence 20 nautical miles offshore then lying dormant and invisible (sending no comms) until the drone picks up an unusual sound, visuals a foreign craft and sends a burst of data to an overhead satellite before going back to sleep.

The lack of comms back to base and control signals to the craft is such a critical part of this tech because its invisible. It could be used to quietly conduct surveillance and resurface 100's of miles away to upload and disappear again..... mind blowing stuff. !! The tech required certainly fits within Akidas capabilities.. Thanks for posting.
