Hi pcbt,
An example would be where a share trades at a maximum of $1.00 on Monday, then trades at a minimum of $1.05 on Tuesday. On a chart this creates a gap where bar or candles are used. It wont show up on a line chart which plots closing price only.
Can occur across all timeframes from minutes to months.
