A separate debate of its own, so I'll keep this short & sweet. Historically, presently and foreseeably, Australia derive significant benefits from the United States across all fronts. Australia's alliance with the US is branded second to none, and is arguably one that is keeping China at bay. New Zealand is trying to appease all sides, and frankly I don't blame them because they simply don't have the capability of mustering up a solid defensive capability. As for the previous tours/missions, that question can be asked to the entire world.
