Exactly as Silviu said, there shall be new variants of COVID-19 and some of these may be better or worse.
The latest variant is DELTACRON, which is hitting the news in Europe this weekend, and looks like more severe than OMICRON.
Mesoblast doesn’t need to wait for the BLA in order to start another clinical trial. Probably the IND has been submitted and we are now waiting the green light from FDA / NIH.
NIH is definitely a part of the confirmatory Phase 3 trial for COVID-19 ARDS.
How will they recruit 300 patients?
30 medical centers x 10 patients…
or
15 medical centers x 20 patients….
or
45 medical centers x 7 patients…
Without competing trials, which was a huge problem for recruiting before, they should be able to recruit in faster time than the first trial, however if needed they can make it an international trial and target hotspots around the world. So I think there shall be NIH for domestic USA recruitment and an international partner (big pharma) as well.
I anticipate announcements on this in next week(s).
