the barges are loaded to a draft that is dependent on depth over the bar.therefore on certain times of the year the full capacity (say 7500t can be loaded) ie high water springs .on neaps there is less water over the bar thus the draft of the barge must be less for a safe passage so the maximum capacity will be less .generally an under keel clearance of 10% of draft is satisfactory
