Moree in northwest NSW has not had rain in April 2023 (according to the BOM) thus far but enjoyed 84mm in March 2023 (including 48mm in one 24 hour period) and just above 62mm in February, so you'd hope soil moisture levels would be excellent. But I'm not an expert.

Further south, Narrabri has had 22.6mm thus far in April, an astounding 146.6mm in March but just 10.8mm in February this year. Doesn't suggest drought conditions.

More remote Walgett is a lot drier with only 22.8mm between 1 February and 13 April 2023.

The major growing area of Coonamble is similar with BOM recording a total of 22.6mm in this two and a half months.

Dubbo has been far rainier with above 93mm in total in 2.5 months, but 53.8mm of that was in February.

Moving south, West Wyalong enjoyed 14.4mm in April thus far, but a much higher 50.2mm in March though a miniscule 0.4mm in February. Forbes NSW is remarkably similar with (respectively) 11.4mm, 52.2mm and 6.6mm. No evidence of a drought!

Hillston NSW is to my eyes on the edge of classic graingrowing country but in April it's already had 18mm, in March it enjoyed 40.6mm though no rain in February 2023.

The NSW Riverina's Wagga Wagga has been very wet with 35.6mm in April thus far, a huge 108mm in March 2023 and 19mm in February.

So early days for the winter 2023 crop that's not yet even in the ground, but while we have to approach it with the usual caveat of 'Farmer Jones' paddocks look great' whereas five kilometres down the road, 'Farmer Brown's are dry as a bone', it's a mixed picture but in many areas of NSW, encouraging.

The key is we SH would like average rainfall: no massive drought but no rain that buckets down and sees rivers and creeks flood and machinery unable to access paddocks (or roads).

DYOR and take my comment with a sackload of salt, but at A$7.05 'Mr Market' is underappreciating GNC's medium term quite good future.
