most of our grain production is not irrigated...also soil moisture is stored in heavy soils but some of thos areas had little summer rain--to get the really big crops rain now and then again late August or early Sept is needed (can be late Sept and into Oct in southern NSW and Vic perhaps, depending on East or West and planting time etc )
