In the Automotive space, Mercedes, BMW have typically led the way via OEM suppliers such as Valeo, Bosch etc. Their "Marquee" models (7 series, S Class) debut the tech and and it filters down to the cheaper models.
EFI was invented by Bosch, so was ABS.
