"Not all edges are created equal"...next year will be interesting indeed.
The big chip companies, NVIDIA, AMD and Intel only want incremental changes towards AI at "the edge" and define "the edge" as anything not at the cloud. Intel's Meteor Lake "AI" chip is basically its latest CPU with an extra NPU, so desktop and laptops can have some "edge AI" functions, then Intel will continue their usual revenue stream by incremental upgrades to these CPU based "AI chips". It's the only way not to kill its established base in peripheral computers using Intel chips all these years. NVIDIA and AMD have also similar plans by utilizing their already well established base.
As I have pointed out, it will only be ARM that will introduce the big leap into neuromorphic computing which will cover all definition of "the edge". ARM does not have any established CPU/GPU base so as the new kid on the block, ARM can start to immediately offer pure neuromorphic AI chips. Their assault on the AI space was confirmed today by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Arm CEO Rene Haas. So come next year, developers can choose from an ARM/Renesas/Brainchip pure neuromorphic AI chip, either the NVIDIA, AMD or Intel CPU/GPU+NPU AI chip or other NPU AI chips from the likes of EdgeCortex, Synaptics etc...
Yes, it will be David and Goliath battle for Brainchip but people forget it has the backing from ARM which is forming a SoftBank supported Japanese alliance to dominate the edge AI space. No one has a crystal ball but Brainchip is certainly going to be the center of attention very soon particularly if other companies like VVDN, EDGX, Tekson etc.. are gradually coming out of the woodwork with their AI solutions containing Akida.
