your saturday conspiracy is on point, people/investors forget that large companies and countries have 10 and 25 year plans, they dont budget the weekly grocery bill, they plan to buy and build shopping centres (mines/projects), so a few pot plants get bulldozed in their way, don't be a pot plant, hold your ground (yes, its saturday, trimming the hedge).

another analogy, if you're selling tvs, would you buy at retail and sell at retail, or would you figure a way (short) to buy wholesale knowing that everyone will want your tvs? (Yes, I finally sat down after the hedges)

lets try another way, you're a large company with huge resources, you have investors money and receive a nice 20% margin on their profits, say managed investment fund, lets call it long/short, what would you do to buy the investment strategy at bargain prices? if you're thinking short with purchase orders waiting to be filled, yes, you're right again.
