All across Australia you need to know the history of 'The Rush That Never Ended' (title of a book by Geoffrey Blainey - in which he follows the old diggers in their journey from Victorian Goldfields up the East Coast, across the Top End, through The Pilbara, south to Kalgoolie and finally east to Gawala Craton.)
They constantly were on the move to newer richer finds and as a consequence missed a lot of pay in the fields they left. That is there for us to find today.
The story told by that other show whose core I showed you is a case in point - when the digging got a bit deep (150m) and the lode spaced out they just upped tools and left - in fact the lode was just faulted away a few tens of metres and gets thicker at depth.
The big pull when the diggers left Gympie and Mt Morgan was Charters Towers and The Palmer River - lots of coastal gold and mineral fields were just scraped over.
This week JandJ took a trip to Buderim, a nice little town here on the Sunny Coast, for coffee and cake, and next door was a Rare Book Shop - I always go in and ask for any book by Blainey or Ion Idriess, and I scored two. 'The Rise of Broken Hill' by JB: and 'The Tin Scratchers The story of tin mining in the far North' by Ion L. Idriess.
I will read Tin Scratchers first (after this current boom in speccie critical minerals stocks dies down) I'll bet there are a few clues there, nicely hidden knowing Idriess.
Thought you would like to see the cover, the Hut is not as good as the one we had at Mt Isa, the tucker looks a bit rustic, but the team appears in good spirits LOL.
