Some welcome rain is coming from the northwest into parts of what should in good years be the major granary of northwestern NSW.

The 2023-24 harvest was notable in NSW for the 'wrong reason' that it was always matched by output from Victoria. NSW should normally produce a lot more grain than the southern state given NSW's much larger number of hectares suitable for various grains.

Gunnedah, Narrabri and Moree have yet to benefit much or not at all (Moree received 2.8 millimetres inb the 24.5 hours to 0930 AEDT) but further south, in the 24 hours to yesterday, Girilambone benefited from 19.6mm. Not far south of the major NSW rural city of Dubbo that's had an excellent 37.2mm, the town of Wellington has seen 23.4mm in the last two days, demonstrating how variable rainfall totals can be.

One would hope by 0900 AEDT on Friday 5 April, these areas have received a reasonable amount. As always, rain is localised so one graingrower may be fortunate while the next one doesn't experience any downpours. Fingers crossed.
