    The first extract has been taken from theInformation Systems Laboratories Inc (ISL) website. It contains a statement regarding thedevelopment of a Detect and Avoid System for very small Unmanned AircraftSystem platforms.

    This extract contains two links. The first is to the ISL awarded US Patent forProcess and Method for Real – Time Sensor Neuromorphic Processing. The second is for a Digital Twin Engineeringframework developed by ISL. Briefextracts of each has been reproduced below. Dealing only with the Patent it was applied for in 2021 and granted 22February, 2022. In the body of thepatent ISL discusses Intel Loihi as a type of SNN IC that might be used howeverit can be seen in the reproduced announcement below that on 9 February, 2022ISL entered into an Early Access Partnership with Brainchip in part because AKIDAtechnology was ‘production ready’:

    Artificial Intelligence, NeuromorphicComputing and DoD Acceptance Testing

    ISL is focused on replicatingthe analog nature of biological computation and the role of neurons incognition. ISL’s team of scientists/engineers continue to understand how themorphology of individual neurons, circuits, applications, and overall architecturescreates desirable computations. Leveraging this understanding and the newlydeveloped and emerging commercial neuromorphic chips, ISL is developing a newlow-power, lightweight detect and avoid (DAA) system for very small UASplatforms that exploits automotive radar hardware, light-weight EO/IR sensors,advanced data fusion algorithms, and neuromorphic computing.

    Additionally,ISL has pioneered an AI acceptance methodology that allows for DoD testing ofAI solutions using essentially the same statistically based methodology in usetoday. ISL was awarded a US Patent for this February (see link). The methodology leverages ISL’s RF Digital Engineering tools (https://www.islinc.com/digital-engineering ).
