I wish you were right, but in reality we're in a race.
Yes, the prize is big.
Arm who doesn't normally make chips, but rather licenses IP to others, says in your link, that they will now change their policy and actually make chips to capture this market.

That's how tight the race is.

It's imperative we do a deal soon. If we did decide to not tape out an Akida2 chip so as to not compete with a licensee ( there is only two licensees: Renesas and MegaChips) then this would mean they are much more than ecosystem partners. Maybe that's waht our licensees bought - time. BUT If it turns out we delay for 18 months to let them get their chip to market., and they don't go ahead for some internal reason, which looks to be the case, then we have well and truely stuffed ourselves, and we need to go to a planB.

I like the edge box. If we can sell a heap of these, so that OM's can design great products, and if there is a chip available that lets them manufacture this chip for the consumer, then we can win this race.

If the edge box contains an NXP chip and an akida chip, then lets get NXP to be the next licensee. This is win win for us and a CPU chip manufacturing company to put together a solution for the OEMs.

This makes a lot more sense than sitting back and hoping arm decide in a years time to use our ip.
